Connection occurs from interactions between people and other people, places, and things. The results include enhanced subjective well-being, positive emotions, meaning, and belonging. Mindset relates to cognitions and implicit beliefs that inform motivation and behavior. This paper proposes the study of a new construct—a connection mindset. This mindset would explain why some people consider and act on connection opportunities more than others and enjoy greater well-being.

September 11, 2001 is a day the world will never forget. What many don’t know is what followed—that starting on September 12, lower Manhattan was the center of one of the worst, most toxic environmental catastrophes the United States has ever seen. Nine years later, Bill Groner and his partners settled the largest mass lawsuit in American history for over 10,000 first responders who suffered medical issues due to post-9/11 cleanup and rescue efforts. He was inspired by their selflessness and their decision to put “We” over “Me”—a concept that changed his perspective on everyday life.
